Make a trinket dish for Mum!
These little trinket dishes are great for holding things like rings and earrings. And they’re super easy to make! And what’s even better, you can personalise them to tell your mum how much you love her.
- Air dry clay
- A plastic mat
- Cutters in different shapes
- Things to decorate your dish - toothpicks, leaves, anything that leaves an impression!
Prepare your clay according to the provided instructions. I kneaded my clay until it was smooth and pliable. Then flatten it with your hand, pressing it out until it is 3-4mm thick.
Grab your cutters and start pressing out shapes. To smooth and tidy the edges of each shape, gently tap with your finger.
Now it’s time to really have fun! It’s decoration time! In the picture above, I've used a skewer and a toothpick to press out a pattern. In the picture below, I found something round to press out tiny bubbles that I’ll paint later. You can press in leaves or maybe you'd like to add a message with letter stamps. Tap with your finger to smooth any rough edges.
To create a dip in your dish, cut some strips of card and roll into a ring, securing the end with tape. Then gently rest your dish on the ring. Now leave it to dry, usually about 24 hours.
Once your clay dish has completely dried and hardened, lightly sand any rough patches.
And then, finish decorating! Paint it out!
Once your paint has dried, add a few coats of varnish according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Et voila, you have the perfect, personalised gift for mum this Mother’s Day.
